about

The singer admonishes himself for doubting his faith, and struggles with accepting the absence of every person he has lost. At the end of the song, the music takes a very hopeful and impacting turn, allowing him to transition to the final stage of grief, acceptance.
(Stage of Grief #4: Depression)

lyrics

I knelt toward the cross
And I said what I know how to say
While all in my head,
I had to think of reasons I would stay

My faith gave me hope,
Teaching me the lessons I’ve never learned
But how can I cope,
With what my heart is telling me to yearn

'Cause I tried and I tried in vain
When I knew it would end in pain
Hangin on to the edge of tomorrow
Drifting into the past of my sorrow

From my knees I arose all along
But it hurt, oh it hurt, for so long
And it hurt more than I could bare
Because I still really cared

Now that it is finally gone,
The hardest part is done
Now that it is finally gone,
The hardest part is done
It is done

But I hear the voice of God above
And all that He says is that I am loved
(x3)
